QBQ!
QBQ - Personal Accountability - The Question BEHIND the Question - by John Miller - A powerful book about asking the right questions.
This is simply one of the most powerful books I have ever read about personal accountability. QBQ takes about 70 minutes to read and has a lifelong impact both at work and at home. QBQ implies exploring other questions based on the original question. However, the real story is about personal accountability in work and in life.
Rather than doing what comes naturally for many of us and becoming defensive and pointing fingers, Personal Accountability is really about changing your thinking from “Why is this happening to me?” to “How can I fix this?” or "What can I do to make a difference?"
For example, at work, we might hear, "Why didn't that department do their job right?" The result is victim thinking and blame. Energy loss from poor questions leads to poor employee morale and diminished customer experiences.
A team member who uses QBQ would ask a better question such as, "What can I do to get this done?" or "How can I help that department?"
Using QBQ to overcome poor questions has helped me help others:
- Improve morale
- Seek solutions
- Improve productivity
- Ehance customer relationships
- Reduce employee turnover
- Build better communication skills
- Solve problems
- Adapt to change
- Foster creativity
In a story from QBQ, a cashier pays for the customer’s under $3 purchase as her register didn’t have enough to provide change. This action resulted in the store getting 100 percent of the customer’s business. The customer was simply blown away by the cashier's thoughtfulness and speedy approach.
By the way - there is a POWERFUL 8 hour QBQ Training Program. Actually - it is incredibly easy to use and implement. Or if you don't want to do it yourself, The Rainmaker Group has some pretty cool people who would love to help you out. The number is 866-988-RAIN (7246) and their website is www.teamrainmaker.com.
Rock on!
Chris
